Dr. Lang recently assumed the role of Principal Investigator of the Oklahoma IDeA Network of Biomedical Research Excellence (OK-INBRE) award which has been running since 2004. Dr. Lang is a tenured full Professor in the Department of Microbiology & Immunology at OUHSC and holds a Presbyterian Health Foundation Presidential Professorship. Dr. Lang is an internationally recognized expert in the immune response to C. difficile infection and is Principal Investigator and Director of the NIH-funded Oklahoma C. difficile U19 program which aims to identify good candidates and strategies for vaccination. Dr. Lang brings a 21-year history of continuous NIH funding as a COBRE Project Leader, and PI or co-investigator on several NIH RO1 and R21 proposals. His research focuses on mechanisms governing antibody-mediated immunity against bacterial pathogens. Dr. Lang also has extensive successful administrative experience, serving in numerous capacities on the OUHSC campus since 2006. He has chaired the OUHSC Graduate Program in Biological Sciences, the OUHSC Rodent Oversight Committee, and has served on the OUHSC Faculty Senate and chaired faculty searches in his home department. Dr. Lang has a long-standing track record of service to the scientific community including several years as a chartered member of the NIH VMD study section, and in several capacities with the American Association of Immunologists. He has sustained involvement with the OK-INBRE program as a grant reviewer and faculty mentor and serves as a mentor for different NIH COBRE programs across campus. Dr. Lang has an extensive graduate teaching portfolio, serving as Director of Immunology for his department, contributing to Graduate Medical Education and the Microbiology and Immunology graduate curriculum and teaching. He trains PhD students in his laboratory and has served on 56 thesis committees to date.
