Research Opportunity Awards
Summer Collaborative Research Projects

$10,000 direct costs + F&A
Faculty at Oklahoma primarily undergraduate institutions and community colleges in the OK-INBRE network can apply for summer Research Opportunity Awards (ROA) with a maximum budget of $10,000 in direct costs plus F&A to support a summer research collaboration with another faculty member in a lab at one of Oklahoma's research-intensive institutions OR primarily undergraduate institutions.
The goal of the ROA program is to provide opportunities for learning new techniques or new experiential activity in collaboration with another faculty researcher who will instruct the applicant on new techniques or skills to expand on the faculty's current knowledge or capabilities. The expected outcome is to enhance the faculty member's research expertise and bring protocols and techniques learned back to the lab or classroom.
The funds may be used for summer salary support and lab supplies. Student salary is not allowable.
Application
1) 1-2 page description of the project, including:
a description of the new or innovative technique to be studied
how the learned skill/technique will improve the ability to teach laboratories or classes to students in the future
a description of the science to be done as a collaborative team and how the new technique will advance the project goals
how integrating the knowledge learned would be imparted into the student curriculum
a description of how the ROA may lead to a new grant application
2) support letter from the lab sponsor/collaborator
3) biographical sketches for the faculty member and the lab sponsor/collaborator
4) budget and budget justification for the project
